Working towards a flying start for the Children and Young People of Cardiff

The Cardiff Children and Young People's Plan
2008 - 2011

Cardiff's Children and Young People's Partnership is developing the first Children and Young People's Plan 2008-2011, on behalf of all of those stakeholders involved, and is inviting all citizens of Cardiff to contribute their views during a three month consultation.

Improving service provision for children and young people across the city is a key priority. Together, we are working to develop better services for Cardiff's children and young people by providing the right services at the right time in the right places.

What is the Cardiff Children and Young People's Plan?

The plan outlines the key challenges and priorities specific to services for children and young people aged 0-25 and how the relevant organisations, working in partnership, plan to tackle them. It builds on what children and young people have told us they want and on the work of many organisations that have helped develop it.

The seven core aims accepted by the stakeholders (based on the articles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child) are that children and young people:

  • have a flying start in life;
  • have a comprehensive range of education and learning opportunities;
  • enjoy the best possible health and are free from abuse, victimisation and exploitation;
  • have access to play, leisure, sporting and cultural activities;
  • are listened to, treated with respect, and have their race and cultural identity recognised;
  • have a safe home and a community which supports physical and emotional wellbeing; and,
  • are not disadvantaged by poverty.
